CIBSE Energy Performance Group

To improve energy performance of buildings by increasing awareness amongst all building professionals and supporting the implementation of relevant legislation aimed at reducing carbon emissions in buildings

Welcome

As realisation dawns that climate change is real and serious, the importance of reducing carbon emissions from buildings has become clear. Building professionals everywhere have been presented with a challenge of major proportions.

In rising to this challenge, CIBSE has created the Energy Performance Group (EPG) with a mission to improve the energy performance of buildings by increasing awareness amongst all building professionals and supporting the implementation of relevant legislation aimed at reducing carbon emissions in buildings.

The group is at work providing information and looking for feedback on energy efficient building design and operation and the carbon savings achieved. As we take on the implications of this mission, our activities include

Part L - Ringing the Changes

The changes proposed to Part L of the Building Regulations will affect everyone involved in construction in the UK. CIBSE have identified the importance of the proposed changes thus: “For those who design buildings...this is probably the single most significant legislation affecting how they work.”

The CIBSE Energy Performance Group is involved in supporting CIBSE members, and the wider industry, in influencing and implementing the requirements of Part L. As part of their role to influence and disseminate, CIBSE have set up a dedicated website: Part L Consultation

The CIBSE EPG Bulletins will continue to be a source for the latest industry information surrounding Part L legislation and implementation.

Coming shortly

As part of our continued focus on developing this website to bring EPG members a richer information resource we shall shortly be providing a ‘Quick Intro’ area in which experts will provide condensed introductions to a range of topical subjects together with pointers for further study. Each topic will be open for one month after which time it will be available from the Learning Zone as a download. In addition, we are planning to incorporate the ‘Useful Links’ area within the ‘Learning Zone’ and improve the interface, so watch this space!
